Materials List
We will be painting outside in a beautiful grove of pine trees! Idaho June weather can be unpredictable. It is best to bring sunscreen, a wide brim hat, bug spray, and clothing that can be worn with a range of temperature from 60 degrees to 80 degrees. Layering your clothing works well.
The following list is a suggestion of materials that you should bring.
Oil Painters
Items for your work station
- French easel. If you do not have a French easel bring your own painting easel and small fold up table trays for your pallet and painting supplies
- Plastic Tarp to cover materials
- Large patio umbrella 7' or 9' in diameter. If you are purchasing an umbrella solid neutral color is best.
- Umbrella stand
- Fold up Camp chair
- A cooler and small table that you can set your supplies on work well.
Large umbrella are available for rent ( stand provided). Limited number available.
Easels are available to rent. Limited number available.
Oil Paints:
- Titanium white
- Yellow Ocher
- cadmium yellow light or Hansa yellow
- Cadmium Yellow orange
- Cadmium Red Light
- Quinacridone Red
- Alizarin Crimson
- Ultramarine blue
- Thalo Blue
- Viridian Green
- Burnt Umber
- Ivory or Mars Black
Optional:

Brushes:
- Bristle; Filbert #4, 6, 8, 10 ( make sure they are 1/2",3/4", 1" wide)
Supports
- Canvas/Boards sizes: 8x10s, 9x12s, 11x14s, 16x20s, 20x20s, or what ever size you prefer.
Other supplies
- Gamsol mineral spirits.
- Brush Cleaner Container to put mineral spirits in (NO GLASS CONTAINERS)Tip: Danene recommends using a larger container, big enough to hold an ample supply of solvent. Danene uses two containers.Brushes should be cleaned thoroughly throughout the painting process, which is impossible to do with too little an amount of your Gamsol. Tiny containers are inefficient in art classes. This is an exercise in futility! You can not keep your brushes clean with out large amount of solvent.
- Linseed oil . Danene likes Utrecht alkali refined linseed oil
- Pure gum Turpentine
- Damar Varnish
- Palette Knives
- Palette at least 16x20 (glass, acrylic or paper)
- Something you can store your pallet in with lid for over night protection and traveling.
- Palette Scrapper ( paint scraper)
- Cheap Paper Towels (more than one role)
- Sketch book and sketching supplies
Watercolorists
Items for you work station
- Same as oil painter. Small work table to work on instead of easel.
